HHI Celebrated the International Day of Peace on 9/21/08

"On this International Day, let us promise to make peace not just a priority, but a passion...Let us pledge to do more, wherever we are in whatever way we can, to make every day a day of peace."-UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

History

"The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the United Nations as an annual observance of global non-violence and ceasefire. Every year, people in all parts of the world honor peace in various ways on 21 September."

HHI's Portland Baby Peace Day

HHI held its first celebration of the International Day of Peace with "Baby Peace Day" in Portland Oregon at Jamison Square Park. We are blessed, honored and thankful for the participation of guest speaker Gun Denhart, not your average Joe Mishkin who provided many fashionable balloon sculptures, the Kid's Marching Band, baby massage expert Carol River and David Hall who provided the groovy peace tunes. They all made is an enjoyable and memorable event. You can see all the pictures by clicking here.

We would also like to thank the following people who so graciously volunteered their time and energy to make this such a special event:

Kim & Jason Graham-Nye, Kim Sordyl, Jennifer Thessin, Matthew McTigue, Jennifer Ireland, Barbara Rosen, Brenda Gilbert, Courtney Campbell, Linda Ruggiero, Megan Ziskovsky, Christine Chaille & Frank Mahler

And we are grateful for the following sponsors:

Ellie Pooh PaperThe Unveiling of HHI's Peace Heart Project!

This was also a very special event because it will be the unveiling of HHI's new Peace Heart Project, which gives children around the world the opportunity to write their peace commitments on paper hearts (made from Mr. Ellie Pooh Elephant Dung Paper!) that are then hung from a tree at their school, creating a simple yet beautiful public display of peace through art. What better way to start a movement for peace than with children, the leaders of our future and hope for a brighter day. Learn More About the Peace Heart Project Here.
